I got a bill from my insurance co which states I MAY still owe for services list!

Question:

I got a bill from my insurance co which states I MAY still owe for services listed.?

Since they said MAY still owe am I obligated to pay them? My understanding is that the amount for certain svcs is negoiated btwn the insur co and Pearle. If Pearle agrees and they did then why should they bill me w/o sending a detailed bill?

Why are they asking me for any kind of payment ...just 2C if I will pay?

Answers:

Every insurance company's explanation of benefits is a little different. The reason that your EOB says that you MAY owe for the services is that they may not be certain that you paid your portion at the time of service (we do have people who always seem to forget their wallet....)

Anyhow, when you see any medical provider, and we tell you what we think the insurance will pay, it is an ESTIMATE!!! It's not like running a credit card and getting approval. Even a prior authorization does not guarantee payment for the provider. Contracted providers agree to bill your insurance as a courtesy to you. If the provider follows "the rules," you are still liable to the provider for anything the insurance company says you owe.

If you didn't get an itemized bill from Pearle, ask them to send you one. Compare the amounts that you were charged with what the insurance says that you may owe. If you still don't understand, call either your insurance company or call Pearle and ask for the insurance administrator or the branch manager.

Good luck (God, I hate dealing with insurance !)
