Strabismus and glasses?!

Question:

Strabismus and glasses?

I had strabismus since I was 5 years old, and wore glasses for 13 years to cosmetically improve my appearance. I recently had it corrected with surgery. The problem I am seeing now is that my eye tends to deviate OUTWARD slightly when I have my glasses on...because they are still trying to compensate for my strabismus that is no longer present. (I had esotropia.) My eyes are perfectly straight without my glasses, but I still need glasses for my vision. My question is, can my opthamologist change my prescription so my glasses no longer overcompensate and my eyes are straight WITH my glasses?

Answers:

Your ophthalmologist should be able to help change your prescription to help your deviation. Your complaint is actually quite a common postop occurrence and is usually solved with a slight prescription change so that your weaker eye is no longer being compensated as much as it was when you had your esotropia.
