Contact Prescription?!

Question:

Contact Prescription?

I went to my eye doctor for the routine yearly eye exam. I got a prescription for contacts and glasses. Now I've lost my glasses and I want contacts, but when I went to go ask for the prescription, they said that they cannot give it to me unless I buy it from them, but they will give me the prescription for the glasses. Is that right? Am I not allowed to have my own prescription?

Yes, I received a contact lens exam and a regular glasses exam. I had the trial pair for the contact and they fit fine, but I opted for the glasses instead.

Answers:

Did you have a contact lens fitting with the doctor? The doctor cannot provide a prescription for contacts until he has done a fitting and followup with the lenses to make sure they are right for your eyes and not doing harm. In order to this you must be wearing contacts so you will have to buy the first ones from him.

You can take your glasses prescription to a different place where they will use it as a starting point for fitting contacts, but you will still have to pay them for fitting and follow up.
