How do you focus your eyes when getting an eye exam?!

Question:

How do you focus your eyes when getting an eye exam?

When I got my eye exam 3 days ago, everything was great...then when I got my glasses I found I had to use my eye muscles a little to make the lenses be focused correctly. I am getting a headach after 15-30 minutes of wearing these cause I constantly have to strain my eye muscles to focus...if I completely relax my eye muscles my glasses are blurry...she said my prescription was near what it was last time (around 1.50 in each eye with .5 astigmatism in both eyes) and hasn't changed much, but I shouldn't have to use my eyes to focus right? I mean the glasses should work in my completely relaxed state right?

Answers:

well...this is complicated. you probably need to be asking your eye doc these questions.

it is possible that the Rx`is a little off. this would probably be the case if you are having to "focus" or strain to see things FAR AWAY.

but it is also possible that you are nearsighted and accommodative insufficient, which is really, really common among nearsighted people IMO. so if you have your glasses on and have to "focus" when you are READING something up close or looking at a computer...then thats totally normal. you're not supposed to be able to "completely relax your eye muscles" with your glasses ON and still see clearly up close w/o "focusing". you'll probably end up removing your glasses for up close.

there are actually more possibilities than those 2. you need to ask your eye doc...
