What is the water % in contact lenses?!

Question:

What is the water % in contact lenses?

I've been browsing the internet looking for suitable contacts, but the one's I have at the moment (Johnsons&Johnsons - Acuvue Moist) are a bit expensive and not the best ones I've ever tried. I'm trying to find some alternatives by reading what they do (and by what I've had before) but I was wondering about the water % they type out. My eyes usually get a bit dry after having the contacts for about three, four hours - even though I drink plenty of water (recommended by my optician). I never use my contacts at work so it's not all the sitting in front of the Pc that dries them out!

Now to the main question - is it good to have a high or low water%? I'm thinking high - but can anyone confirm this and what else do I need to think about (except for fit and strength)?

Many thanks for any help!

Answers:

Generally, a lower water content contact lens will be better for dry eyes. This is because contact lenses stay hydrated by your tears. A high water content lens would need more tears to stay moist than a low water content lens. So, believe it or not, low water content lenses tend to be better for dry eyes. Like the others said though, your doctor will know what's best for your specific needs.
