I have glasses. I have had these 4 a while. Well, today, I noticed that this film-type thing has formed on it. It is not a scratch or a smear..I can stilll see out of them, it is just annoying. I already tried to use a glass-cleaner and soft cloth to clean it off......any ideas of what it is and how to get it off???

Thanx 4 all of ur help???

Sounds like the factory applied coatings may be lifting off of your lenses and it causes a hazing effect on them...when you say a "glass cleaner"...do you mean an eyeglass cleaner? Or do you mean a glass cleaner like Windex? If you are using Windex, the ammonia in the cleaner will do nothing but make this worse and if you've been using a Windex-type cleaner (meant for GLASS windows and such) this could be why your coatings have started to lift and craze. If you are using an actual eyeglass cleaner, then you need to make sure that you run the lenses under some running water FIRST, BEFORE spraying them with the spray. If the lenses have any type of dirt or grit on them, all the lens spray does is make it wet dirt and then you wind up scratching it back and forth over the lens. Sort of like when you wash a car...you always hose it down good to rinse off the road dirt and salt and bugs so that you don't grind it into the finish of your car when you take a sponge to it...same applies with your glasses.

If you lenses had any type of anti-reflective coating for glare on them, depending on the coating, it is very important that you rinse them before spraying anything onto the lenses to wipe them. Some anti-reflective coatings are kind of cheap and not very durable. Depending on where you got your glasses, if you have the anti-reflective coating on there, some labs carry a chemical stripper that can take the damaged coating off and any of the superficial scratches should come off with the coating. Anything that has gone through it will remain though...

Either way, sounds like your lenses are pretty damaged so you should probably look into getting a new set...

Good luck!
