Question:

How long does it take a person to learn Braille? - with no instructor, on their own....?

Answers:

There's no set time in learning Braille. Everyone learns at a different pace. Grade 1 will probably take less time. Are you learning it by sight or tactily? Tactily may take longer for sighted people...im learning tactily. However, i have instruction..i'd suggest getting some..it may be easier. try the Hadley School for the Blind...they offer this program where they'll mail you Braille instructions at home and u can learn on your own. but if your learning on your own w/o any of that, it depends how ur learning it (visually or tactily). but like i said, i cant say for sure how long it will take you..there's no like set average or anything

i've been learning Braille for like a year or so. I learned Grade 1 in about 2 weeks at CBVI in Chester. Grade 2 is taking longer for me. There are SO many contractions. My reading rate is pretty slow but its getting there.

o and if your learning tactily, no cheating!! :). it may get frustrating...im getting pretty frustrated right now..haha but just keep at it. Good luck!!! :]
