Is this herpes of the eye or a normal symptom of cold sores?!

Question:

Is this herpes of the eye or a normal symptom of cold sores?

Every time I am about to get a cold sore I feel it around my left eye first. There is usually pain above and around my eye and sometimes it feels like a headache or fever just on the left side of my head. Usually the headache or eye pain goes away the first or second day after my cold sore, but this time has been rather intense and is still here after a few days.

My eye itself doesn't look unusual at all. There is no redness or lumps on or near the eye, but I wonder if maybe there is like a coldsore on the back side of it or something that is making it hurt.

Answers:

Please see your doctor...ocular herpes can lead to blindness. But this sounds more like nerve inflammation. Herpes is all about nerve endings. Surrounding nerves often are irritated and extremely sensitive during an attack. But have you eye checked next time you feel it coming on. If you don't see the legions on the eye it's probably just related irritation but be sure ok?
