Anyone had DCR to clear a blocked tearduct and it failed?!
Question:
Anyone had DCR to clear a blocked tearduct and it failed?
Did you have it done again?
Answers:
I work for an ophthalmology clinic...and have actually seen cases where a DCR failed...usually because of scar tissue...and I would say that 75% of the patients have elected to have the DCR performed again. There are two procedures...internal and external...and our surgeons usually recommend the procedure not performed the first time...
As for retinal detachment causing tears...I'm sure it might be a symptom, but a DCR, or dacryocystorhinostomy, is to open the ducts in the canalicular/lacrimal system, and doesn't go inside the eye where the retina is. From talking with my ophthalmologists, the two haven't been linked to be a cause-effect relationship (Oculoplastics and Retina specialties).
