I have an eye glasses prescription where one value is DS. What does that stand f!

Question:

I have an eye glasses prescription where one value is DS. What does that stand for?

I have the following prescription:

R -2.5 -0.25
L -3.0 DS

What does the DS stand for?

Answers:

DS just stands for dioptric sphere! A diopter is a unit of lens refractive power, equal to the reciprocal of the lens focal length in meters (power of lens).
When "DS" is written it just indicates that there is no cylinder in the lens!
When your prescription has cylinder it means you have an astigmatism. In your right eye you are myopic with a slight bit of astigmatism. In your left eye you are just myopic!
