Lazy Eye?!

Question:

Lazy Eye?

I've been told that I have a lazy eye, some people see it others don't. I was also told that it might look that way b/c not enough sleep or something. I was wondering, if there is a way I can treat my eye. Can I wear an eye patch to help it, or something else. Any suggestions?

Answers:

Lazy eye is called amblyopia. Eye patching is used to treat the condition in young children. Unfortunately, after the age of about 7 or 8 years, eye patching and other methods do not help amblyopia. If you are bothered by one eye looking slightly inward or outward, that is called strabismus. It can be treated usually with muscle surgery, and is not complicated.

But in any event, lack of sleep does not cause or aggravate amblyopia or strabismus which is a result of amblyopia; however strabismus may also result from muscle and nerve disorders unrelated to amblyopia. Getting more sleep will not improve either amblyopia or strabismus resulting from amblyopia, although it may relieve muscle or nerve related strabismus..
