Is having a laser treatment for the eye unsafe?!

Question:

Is having a laser treatment for the eye unsafe?

yes, i need to know if itsn't safe, and what about wearing contact lenses even in the pool or in the sea water, is it safe?

Answers:

As with ANY surgery, there are risks and possible complications...and the success will vary from person to person. I just had PRK laser surgery 2 weeks ago after carefully researching my surgeon. The more qualified and competent your surgeon, the less chance you will have for postop complications. Also the more closely you adhere to the postop instructions, the less the risk is for developing infections (they will give you antibiotic drops to take to fight any potential infections). With the technology of today and the experience of the surgeon, the procedure is relatively safe. Most who undergo the LVC (laser vision correction) are quite pleased with the results. The cases where I have seen LASIK and PRK patients come into my cornea specialist have usually had preexisting conditions that should have excluded them from getting the LASIK or noncompliance with the postop eyedrop regimen...or a surgeon who didn't have the experience desired (usually a 'cheapo' place).

As for your contact question...get some good fitting goggles or mask just to protect your lenses and eyes. Pool chlorine and sea water are kinda harsh on a normal eye...and if it should absorb into your contacts, if they do not get washed out anyway, you'd probably need to toss them anyway.
