Central Serous Retinopathy-wot now?!

Question:

Central Serous Retinopathy-wot now?

Was told I had CSR - had OCT scan . Doesn't seem to be any treatment. What can I expect to happen from now on? Also, moving to Bahrain & need a good eye specialist or ophthalmologist there. Any suggestions please (very stressful time).

Answers:

If you do have CSR, it's usually self limiting. It usually goes away within a month or two.

Some treatments are 'avoided' as this is self limiting. In those who don't get better, the topical steroids can be of some benefit, but not a lot gets to the back of the eye. Still it's discussed as a treatment.

Laser has also been used to close the little 'hole' in the pigment epithelium beneath the retina. That site is found on an angiogram.

Some of the newer anti-VEGF drugs used for macular degeneration are also used, and have had success in patients without spontaneous resolution of their CSR.

Also, be aware that this might not be from one little site. It may be from a number of different sites and you may have had different bouts of this for years and not known about it if it didn't affect the central vision of that eye. When an angiogram is done, one would see different areas of pigment dropout or window defects that have healed up on their own.
