I got brand new glasses after wearing hard, gas permiable contacts for 10 years.!

Question:

I got brand new glasses after wearing hard, gas permiable contacts for 10 years.?

i've worn the contacts for 10 years now without wearing glasses. I used to wear glasses before the contacts. But now that i got these new glasses, everything, far, is blurry and unable to see. I asked the doctor right away if this is normal, and she said yeah, cause i have to get used to not having contacts on...this seems odd to me. Can someone tell me if this is accurate, what the doctor said and if so, how long do you think it'll take before my vision is normal

Answers:

If the gas permeable lenses were not adequate, either for fit or oxygen supply, your corneas will not be quite the shape they would like to be.
This was more common with the older non-gas permeable hard lenses but it is still quite possible with the newer types.

It can take up to three months for the corneas to settle to a final prescription (a week or two is more usual), which may or may not be near the prescription measured when the contacts had just been removed.

You need a check on the refraction every couple of weeks, and a final Rx when it has stopped changing.
If the blur is very bad, you may need a provisional prescription to help you cope, even if it could go out-of-date a month later.

Are you giving up on contacts completely? With modern lenses, with a week or two of adaptation, part time spectacle/contact lens wear should be quite possible. Inability to swap without spectacle blur gives rise to definite suspicion that the contacts are causing problem, even if the vision with the contacts is good. The acceptable limits of corneal distortion are much less than they were 10-15 years ago.
