Answers:

This happens to me quite often, but it's never painful for me. You sure it's the air that's hurting you?

In any case, when you put on your lense, you're placing a soft, concave object against a moist surface. It's only natural that a little air space develops in between the two. It's like how a suction cup adheres to glass or tile.

A few blinks usually smooths it out, like you've discovered.

I don't think this is bad for your eye, but if you continue to experience discomfort, see your eye doctor about getting a better fitting lense.
