Eye and hand cordination?!

Question:

Eye and hand cordination?

ive herd from my brother that video games improove your eye and hand cordination is this true?

Answers:

There may be some benefit there but I think very little. This is because the action on the screen is dissacociated from the action of the hands. There is therefore no direct tactual feedback. Also, video games tend to deal with only very fine motor control such as finger tips. There is a much greater effect on eye hand coordination when the individual performs tasks that involve vision, fine motor control, large motor control, and over all body involvement. For example, standing on a board balanced on a rolling bar on a concrete floor take a tennis ball and throw it against a wall with the right hand have it bounce off the wall onto the floor and back up again into the left hand. This involves body balance, fine motor of the fingers in releasing the ball, transferring from right side to left side, large motor control of the upper and lower arm muscle groups. You see how much more effective this type of activity is in teaching overall eye motor control and interactive coordination? So yeah I guess maybe video games do some but your brother needs to get up off the couch and get active if he really wants to improve eye hand coordination.
