What's wrong with my eyes?!

Question:

What's wrong with my eyes?

I use these contacts called Night and Day. You can keep them in your eyes even when you sleep, then after a month you throw them away and start a new pair. Well, I took them out in the middle of the night because my right eye was hurting. When I woke up this morning it was worse. The contacts aren't in anymore, but my eyes are red, very watery, and my right eye especially is bothering me. Also extremely sensitive to light. This is the third time that this has happened, and the other times were with different pairs. I make an effort to give my eyes a break and wear glasses, so why is this happening? This pair is only a couple weeks old, and I've worn glasses periodically.

Thank you, browneyedgirl! I called the doctor and made an appointment for tomorrow. I would have gone today but I can't drive in this condition. I appreciate your advice and will definitely give you the ten points!

I went to the eye doctor and it turns out that my cornea is in fact abraded. Prescribed eye drops and no contacts for a week. Also, not allowed to sleep in them anymore. My particular eyes can't handle it. Thanks for all the great answers. You guys rock!

Answers:

Even though Night and Day lenses are approved for 30 days, sometimes things go wrong. Please DO NOT put your contact lenses back in. I am not a doctor, my husband is, and I have seen patients come into our office with similar complaints who have had corneal ulcers, which are very painful.

Please call the office of the doctor who prescribed your lenses right away. You need to have that eye looked at TODAY. Do not throw the lenses away if you still have them. Keep them in the case - if there is an infection it is easier to culture a case/contact than it is to culture your eye.

Please call your doctor right away. Do not wait for this to clear up on its own.
