need info for a report, thanks!

Answers:

The reason why you need to get reading glasses when you reach a certain age is that your crystalline lens in your eye that normally flexes to help you see at near distances becomes more rigid. Your eye looses its ability to accommodate for near vision like reading. A person will notice the inability to read at near distances around age 40. This progresses with age as the crystalline lens becomes even more rigid and can no longer flex. This is what we call presbyopia! It is not a disease... it is just an age related condition that happens to everyone.

Whether a person has lasik or not this will still happen to them... it is a natural process of aging. The need for reading glasses usually begins early forties and the prescription gets progressively stronger until a person is in their late fifties and levels off at that point.
