Which is the correct contact lense?!

Question:

Which is the correct contact lense?

I recently went to a new eye doctor and told her I'd like to try contacts that you can sleep in. I initially told her I'd like the ones you wear for 30 days. Because not as much oxygen gets to your eyes when you sleep in contacts, she offered me a compromise and said she'd give me Acuvue Advance contacts - they are worn for two weeks. I slept in them and they didn't feel that great when I woke up, so I looked them up online and saw that they are not indicated for use while sleeping, but the Acuvue Oasys contacts are indicated for sleeping. I called her office with my concern (thinking maybe she accidentally gave me the wrong ones) and was told by her assistant that the doctor knows what she's talking about because she's in the "business" and that the manufacturer just doesn't want people to know that you really can sleep in Acuvue Advance contacts. Has anyone out there gotten this advice?

Answers:

Acuvue Advanced is not made to be worn overnight at all!!! This particular lens is a daily wear lens with a 2 week replacement schedule! Acuvue Oasys on the other hand is approved for 6 continuous nights of wear! In my personal opinion I think the less you wear your contacts the better! Even if you have extended wear contact lenses you still need to give your eyes a break regularly.... I would say at least every 3 days if you must wear them like that! Personally I think its ideal if you still take them out every night. Your cornea needs oxygen and if it is deprived it will be prone to damage and infection that may be irreversible and could even lead to the inability to wear contact lenses and loss of vision.
Anyways... I think your doctor may have made a mistake... the assistant is probably not knowledgeable in these matters! It is best to only speak with the doctor!!! Until you do speak with your doctor take your contacts out every night!
