Phakic IOL's?!

Question:

Phakic IOL's?

What different Phakic IOL surgeries are there? What is the youngest I can get them at? Risks? Will the success be higher if I'm younger? (around 20 years old)

Also, is the risk of a retinal detachment high if I am -15.00 diopters in both eyes?

Thanks

Answers:

I am not all that versed in Phakic surgeries, but my Boss's collegue did the clinical trials for the FDA. Look up Dr. Robert Maloney online he is the head of the Maloney Vision Institue in Los Angeles CA. He is the best corrective surgeon in the US. ANy time any of us that have myopia have anything done to our eyes, we have a higher incidence of retinal problems becuase our retinas have been stretched too far when we grew and our eyes actually grew longer than our retina was designed to reach. So, having higher tension, they do have a higher incidence of detatchment. But this is true no matter if we have surgery or sit and watch TV. We just have a higher incidence period. Do go to his website and he has a book her wrote that I beleive is online and it does address your questions. O^O
