Question:

I've been wearing contacts for about a month now and recently my vision has been blurry...why would this be?

When I put my glasses on I can see fine and they are the smae presriptions?? Help! Do I need new contacts or stronger prescription...I don't know...

Answers:

It could be a few things:

Are they blurry from the moment you put them in until you take them out? Or do you find that its only after they've been in for several hours?

What type of contacts do you wear? Disposables or the regular daily wear (where you get one pair for the year) If they are NOT disposables, perhaps you have a build-up of protein on your lenses that over time can cloud them. Your eyes produce a protein and if not cleaned properly, the lenses get little spots on them and they don't come off and the lenses will need to be replaced. That's why so many people have switched to disposables because you don't wear the lenses long enough for the protein to have a chance to accumulate because you throw them away after 2 weeks. They also make monthly disposable lenses. Either way, they are better for you eyes because you have a fresh, clean set of lenses every few weeks. Depending on how long its been since your exam from your Optometrist, they can switch you to the disposable contacts. But if its close to you needing your new exam, they may require that you have a new exam done before they will refit you.

Another possibility is that your eyes may be drying out and this also causes clouding of the contacts. Have you tried some contact lens re-wetting drops? Instill a few drops in your eyes when they feel dry and see if that doesn't clear it up. They also make contacts specially for those with dryer eyes, called Acuvue Advance, which are also coincidentally , a disposable lens.

You said that your glasses and contacts are the same RX. Do you this for a fact? Just because you got them at the same time, does not necessarily mean that they are the exact same prescription. Many times, the glasses will have an astigmatism correction that the contacts will not have, simply because it isn't enough to warrant fitting the person with toric contacts. They only make the toric contacts starting with a certain amount of correction, so if yours does not meet the specifications, then the doctor will give you regular spherical lenses. So, its very possible that you specs have the astigmatism, and your contacts don't, which could be why you see better in the glasses. But, if you eyes have changed at all and your astigmatism has gotten worse, it could be possible that the doctor needs to change your prescription to either have the correction for the astigmatism, or they can sometimes boost the spherical power to make-up for the astigmatism (so that you can still wear the less expensive contacts)

In either case, I think you should make an appointment with your Optometrist and have them check you to see what the problem is...

Good luck!!!
