Danger of wearing disposable contacts 24-7?!

Question:

Danger of wearing disposable contacts 24-7?

Answers:

Yes what most people are saying is correct! It will deprive your cornea of oxygen! This leaves it susceptible to a corneal ulcer or infection among many other problems. You may also experience GPC under your eyelids.... Honestly I have answered similar questions sooo many times and I am kind of tired writing the same thing over and over... so here are a few excerpts:
It is not ok to wear the contacts longer then it says to on the box unless your eye care professional has said otherwise.
I know other people may wear their contacts longer but that is between them and their eye care professional. If they are doing so without recommendation they are risking serious eye conditions that are just not worth it.

Improper contact lens wear can cause permanent damage to the point where you may never be able to wear contacts or get a serious infection that could end in blindness.

Naturally your eyes produce protein and lipids and this builds up on the lenses, even with cleaning them thoroughly the deposits remain. These deposits irritate your eyes and also "clog" up your contact lenses and the amount of oxygen getting to your cornea is reduced.
If you over-wear your contacts your cornea will not be able to tolerate it. Wearing lenses for extended periods of time can block oxygen to the cornea, making it more susceptible to infections. A cornea that is deprived of oxygen is VERY prone to infection.
Also improper contact lens wear can result in a corneal ulcer. This happens when the surface of the cornea is damaged or compromised.
This is more serious because bacteria may be on the lens or in your cleaning solutions, thus, they get trapped on the under surface of the lens. If your lenses are left in your eyes for long periods of time, these bacteria can multiply and cause damage to the cornea. This can even result in blindness or the inability to wear contacts.

To make a long story short: wear your contacts as recommended by your doctor! If you do not it could have serious consequences that could end up in permanent damage and even loss of vision in more serious cases. It is not worth the convenience of being lazy or saving a few dollars :)
