Can opticians perform refraction where u are from ? and do u think that this is !

Question:

Can opticians perform refraction where u are from ? and do u think that this is within there scope of practice

Should opticians be able to perform Refractions and write Rx ?? there are many opticians that can , But does this cut out optometrists out of the picture ?? i would like everyones feedback should opticians just call themselves optometrists since they can perform all the basic duties of an optometrist ?

Answers:

I was an optician for a few years. No they cannot do the job of an optometrist. Optometrists have gone to medical school and have far more extensive training than opticians. Optometrists can give medical advice, opticians cannot. If the refractor didn't work one day, the optometrist could still see patients. Optometrists can also prediagnose eye conditions before sending the patient onto an Opthalmologist.
