Contact lense ageing?!

Question:

Contact lense ageing?

There are different kind of contacts, some are worn 1 day and some are worn for 2 weeks. I was wondering how the "ageing" is worked out?

Is it a guess as to how many hours a day someone normally wears contacts or do they age the same regardless how often they are worn?

Im asking because I wear 2 week contacts at the momement, but I only wear them 4-6 hours a day. So does that mean I could wear these for 3 - 4 weeks then?

Answers:

Most 2 week contact lenses are designed to be worn up to 16 hrs. a day for 14 days. If you aren't wearing them a full day, it won't hurt them or your eye to wear them another day. The problem is that contact lens companies aren't going to break down the wearing time on an hourly basis because that's too difficult to explain to potential patients. It's just easier to say 2 weeks.
Personally, contacts to me are like milk expirations. If it still feels okay after the normal time has expired, a few extra days won't hurt you. Just make sure you visit your eye doctor on a regular basis. That's the most important thing.
