Could I Have Degenerative Myopia?!

Question:

Could I Have Degenerative Myopia?

Could I? What are the symptoms? How can I tell?

I have -9.00 diopters in my right eye and -7.00 in my left. I'm not even an adult yet and my vision seems to keep getting worse even if I don't use it much.

Answers:

"degenerative myopia" is a form of myopia where the retinal health is affected:

it is different from garden-variety juvenile myopia progression, in which teens get increasingly nearsighted.

the only way to know if you have degenerative myopia is to have a dilated eye examination and have an eye doctor (optometrist or ophthalmologist) make that diagnosis for you. your retina either has a degenerated appearance or it does not. no way to tell by just the spectacle Rx (whether you are -9.00 or not) or whether you are becoming increasingly nearsighted or not
