For those who have had laser corrective eye surgury, is it worth it?!

Question:

For those who have had laser corrective eye surgury, is it worth it?

laser or lasik, however it's called. has your eyesight improved dramatically, and how long would the improvement last? what are the risks involved? i am really thinking to get it but want opinions to help with the decision. overall, is it worth the risk and cost?

Answers:

Just yesterday I had PRK, the first refractive surgery that had been invented.

My eyesight has improved so much that I feel as if I'm looking at a different world!! Yes, everything is still foggy, I'm a bit uncomfortabel, and not seeing 20/20 yet...but I am only 1 day out....but SUPER happy with the result so far. Even if my vision stayed where it is right now with no fogginess (a typical postop reaction) it was DEFINITELY worth it.

There are risks involved...I've given you a link below that describes the procedures, indications, complications, and outcomes...just choose the procedure that you are looking at and your current optical (nearsighted, etc) condition. It is a bit technical, but you can definitely get the gist.

Everyone starts having problems once they hit around 40 of a condition called presbyopia...this is where the lens in our eyes start to stiffen up...and we all end up in reading glasses.

My suggestion is to research the different procedures, and research the doctors very very carefully. Go in for a consult where they will perform a complete dilated eye exam, measure your corneal thickenss and do a topography of your cornea.

I know I'm only 30 hours out from my surgery, but it's worth it all even at this point.
