Eye opener?!

Question:

Eye opener?

Can anybody tell me why when I place eye drops for red eye my eye lid expands and both my eyes look wider!
I have tested it by putting the drops in one eye and not the other and the results are astonishing. The eye that eye drops have been dropped into is wider. What is the reason for this?

Answers:

some "redness removers" contain phenylephrine...look to see if thats whats in your redness remover eyedrop.
phenyleprine is a known dilating agent. we actually use the stronger concentrations of it in our office to dilate people.

most redness removers in the U.S. do not contain phenylephrine anymore (they use naphazoline or tetrahydrozoline), but phenylephrine is still common in the U.K and worldwide.

as an aside, you know over-the-counter redness removers are not to be used more than 10 consecutive days, right? nio chronic use...causes rebound hyperemia and corneal limbal stem cell dysfunction among other things. very bad for you to use every day
