Instead of contact lens solution can I use distilled water and salt tablets?!
Question:
Instead of contact lens solution can I use distilled water and salt tablets?
someone told me that i can dissolved salt tablets and distilled water and mix them to become contact lens solution. Will that work? Is it safe?
Answers:
This used to be done, and there were products available to produce the correct concentration of saline.
But the saline has no sterilising power, and this was done in the context boiling the lenses every night to kill bacteria.
Heat treatment was popular for many years, as it avoided reactions to the chemicals then used as preservatives.
But boiling did make protein deposition on the lenses much worse.
So, unless you are planning to boil your lenses, saline alone is utterly inadequate to prevent bacteria multiplying on the lenses.
