Question:
Hello has anyone had cataract surgery and used the ReStore, or ReZoom iol lenes?
I wanted to know how you got along with fhese lenes. Do you get a lot of glare? Did they help your near vision and also your far & intermeated vision? Do you think they were worth the extra cost?
Thanks. SAM
Answers:
The multi-focal lenses (such as restor and rezoom) work on the concept of providing several focal points for your brain to choose from. They're designed to provide far, intermediate and near vision, but by being multifocal, the images are not as sharp and glare is a problem specially with patients with large pupillary openings in the dark (large scotopic pupils).
Recently, we have been getting anecdotal reports that patients implanted with restor (alcon) IOL don't do so well with intermediate distances and require a bit of spectacle correction and sometimes even LASIK.
Is it worth it? The answer depends on your expectations and what you actually need your vision for everyday. If you are surgeon, multifocals would probably not be best for you. But for retired individuals who would like to drive, read, garden a bit a go about their daily activitis mostly spectacle free, I guess they would be worth the extra cost.
It really depends on what you want out of the surgery.
