How can I get rid of eyeglass scratches?!

How can I get rid of eyeglass scratches?

My (severely old) eyeglasses are so scratched up, that looking through them is difficult because all the scratches cause a cloudy effect.

I know the best way is to go to an optometrist to have them buff it out. Does anyone know how much this approximately costs to do? (starving student here)

And any other home remedy suggestions?

You need new lenses, if we buff these it will slurry the top coating and ruin them worse. On top of it change your RX.
