My guy has a bumpy buildup on the white part of his eye. His doc said it was hi!

Question:

My guy has a bumpy buildup on the white part of his eye. His doc said it was his eye's natural way of?

protecting itself from the sun. He said it could be removed by scraping. Lately, though, its been looking more red. Anybody ever heard of this? What's the name of this medical problem?

Answers:

Pterygium (pronounced te-rij-e-um), or a benign, abnormal growth on the eye's surface. A pterygium can also grow over the cornea, partially blocking vision, as a result of chronic UV exposure. If sight is threatened, surgery may be required to remove a pterygium.
This is one of the conditions you may be speaking of . Small raised areas on the sclera (white of the eye) can be white, off white or even a pale yellow. The best thing you can do is to make sure he wears sunglasses when exposed to the sun. Even in the wintertime. Alot of people associate sun damage only in the summer months, the fact is damaging UV rays are present all year long. Protect yourself and your guy. Always wear eye protection when in the sun.
I hope this helps. God Bless
