My LASIK/PRK doc told me that you have to be awake to keep staring at the blinking red light. The anxiety is the one thing that I'm afraid of...even with Valium that he does provide. He does use numbing drops, so you do not feel a thing...and he will have me concentrating on a little red dot and focusing on it for the whole 3-5 minutes per eye while he does his thing.

The reason he doesn't want his patients to be knocked out or heavily sedated is because the more drowsy you are, the more likely it is you will lose concentration and move your eye.

My husband had it about 3 weeks ago, and he says he didn't see anything but the red light and didn't feel anything. I have my PRK tomorrow morning and am probably thinking it will be worse than it actually will be.

The link below is the one that I really used to research the procedure itself...if you're squeemish, do not look at the pictures at the bottoms of the articles. Since you didn't specify which correction disorder you have, that is the page that lists them all. Beware, it is a bit technical, but you can get the general gist of it.
