PRK surgery after effects... please help!?!

Question:

PRK surgery after effects... please help!?

I had PRK surgery in my right eye as an enhancement to the Lasik many years back. It has been almost 1 year since the PRK. SInce the beginning I have been experiencing extremely painful epithelial tears/erosions during my REM sleep that wakes me up. I then suffer for about a half hour before the edge ceases a bit. This happens on a random basis. The doc gave me MURO ointment and I actually got the tear after applying the medicine. I cannot sleep sound because I fear the pain. Have you experienced this and if so, when should I expect it to end?? What help it disappear forever?? HELP!!!!

Answers:

likely RCE or "recurrent corneal erosion". painful but not particularly dangerous.

likely caused by your refractive surgery (the link above says caused by "trauma", and surgical procedures definitely fall into the "corneal trauma" category).

also the link above mentions "spot welding", but doesnt give you the name of the "spot weld" procedure...its called "stromal puncture":

good luck. this is not a fun thing. but the good news is its not usually vision or sight-threatening. just painful.
