Why did my vision improve?!

Question:

Why did my vision improve?

I am 39, and over the past 4 years, my eyesight went from 20/80 to 20/25. I was at the eye doctor yesterday and this was confirmed. My vision was checked both on a machine and manually with the different lenses/wall charts. I know it has been in the last 4 years because that was the last time I had my vision checked.

I am healthy with no signs or symptoms of diabetes. My eye doctor is concerned about that though and wants me to have a blood test. Does vision improve with a change in blood sugar? I can't find anything to suggest that--she said it can fluctuate, and I found a lot of material that points to all the degenerative eye problems associated with diabetes, but nothing on improvements.

She also spent a lot of time examining my eyes, and they show zero signs of disease or any other problems, and the blood vessels are normal.

Anyone else had experience with this or know what might cause it? Thanks!

Answers:

Absolutely vision can improve if your blood sugar levels go down. Diabetics that are experiencing vision problems can reverse the symptoms through diet and drugs that regulate insulin and blood glucose levels as long as they didn't sustain any perm. circulation or nerve damage.
