3 1/2 wk old with teary eye?!
Question:
3 1/2 wk old with teary eye?
Has anyone done anything on their own for this? Her eye is not closed shut its not that bad at all just a bit teary in one eye i have wiped it away about twice for the day. I do have a pediatrician but shes gone until the 19th. Im sure it doesnt warrant a trip to the er, she'd probably get more sick there than she is now, well shes not really sick. But anyway any suggestions? thank you
Answers:
It's not uncommon that the tear ducts that drain the eyes are not fully open when a child is an infant, so that they tend to have some difficulty with tearing or goop in that eye. Most often the duct opens during the first year, but in some cases it remains persistently closed and requires a referral to an ophthalmologist.
As long as the eye itself is not red or swollen, the baby isn't having fevers, and otherwise is acting and feeding well, you are probably fine to wait until your pediatrician returns to have him seen. If you would still like reassurance before then, you could try and set up an appointment with one of your pediatrician's partners for an evaluation.
