What measurements should be on my contact lens prescription?!

Question:

What measurements should be on my contact lens prescription?

I got a prescription from my doctor, but they wouldn't sell me the contacts at the store because it didn't give enough information. I'm going back to my doctor so he can put in everything, I know he should know this things, but as he didn't write them the first time, i want to make sure that he puts in everything that needs to be there.
Thanks!

Answers:

Well if the doctor did not do a contact lens fitting session with you then they will not have the "measurements" written down. And I honestly think it is best that no measurements are written down. People should not do their own contact lens selection and fitting. If you want contact lenses you need to be examined for that particular purpose to see if there are any contraindications for contact lens wear. The eye care professional will pick contact lenses best suited to you. After they choose the appropriate lens they will check the fit and the visual acuity you achieve with the lenses. If they do not fit properly you may have compromised visual acuity or they could cause harm to your eyes. They also train you on the appropriate wear and care of contact lenses. Even if you did have the measurements... all contact lenses fit differently and they must be fit by an eye care professional. There is a risk of harm if your contact lenses are not fit by a qualified professional. Do not forget contact lenses are a medical device and improper care, wear or fit could have detrimental consequences. Ask your doctor for a contact lens fitting.... or ask your doctor for a copy of your prescription and get the fitting done by any other qualified professional.
Hope that helps a bit :)
