Strabismus and Contacts?!

Question:

Strabismus and Contacts?

Okay I'm 14 and I had Surgery twice for my Strabismus (Lazy Eye) I want to get Contacts and I want to know if contacts will control my eyes from moving as much?? Is there also a differende from glasses??

Answers:

It depends on the type of strabismus. If you have accommodative esotropia (your eye turns in when uncorrected because it's focusing so hard in effort to see) and are far-sighted (prescription starts with a "+" sign), the contacts may help them to align and may do so better than glasses (though not always). This only works if correcting your visual error is enough to align the eyes. If not, prism would need to be employed in addition to your visual correction to align the images; which can only be done with spectacles.

If you are near-sighted and your eye turns out significantly, the contacts probably will not help as the power necessary to align the eyes would more than likely be too strong for correcting your visual error and would cause eyestrain. There again, prism would need to be employed to help the eyes to align.
