Contact Lenses. What happens if???????

I just want to know. What happens if i wear my monthly contacts for 2 months instead of 1 month before changing them?????

Answers:

It is not ok to wear the contacts longer then it says on the box unless your eye care professional has said otherwise.
I know other people may wear their contacts longer but that is between them and their eye care professional. If they are doing so without recommendation they are risking serious eye conditions that are just not worth it.
People always say things like "ya I do it all the time and I'm fine" people say the same thing about smoking... that doesn't mean it is good for you and that nothing will ever happen.

Improper contact lens wear can cause permanent damage to the point where you may never be able to wear contacts or get a serious infection that could end in blindness.

Naturally your eyes produce protein and this builds up on the lenses, even with cleaning them thoroughly the deposits remain. These deposits irritate your eyes and also "clog" up your contact lenses and the amount of oxygen getting to your cornea is reduced.
If you over-wear your contacts your cornea will not be able to tolerate it. Wearing lenses for extended periods of time can block oxygen to the cornea, making it more susceptible to infections. A cornea that is deprived of oxygen is VERY prone to infection.

Also improper contact lens wear can result in a corneal ulcer. This happens when the surface of the cornea is damaged or compromised.
This is more serious because bacteria may be on the lens or in your cleaning solutions, thus, they get trapped on the under surface of the lens. If your lenses are left in your eyes for long periods of time, these bacteria can multiply and cause damage to the cornea. This can even result in blindness or the inability to wear contacts.

So to sum it up: Throw out contacts when it is recommended to do so. Wearing them for longer will cause your contacts to "clog" up with proteins etc... This will deprive your cornea of oxygen and leaves your eyes susceptible to infection and damage..... The longer you use the same pair of contacts the more time bacteria has to grow on them!!!!
