A Cure Or Reversal For Short-Sightedness (Myopia)?!

Question:

A Cure Or Reversal For Short-Sightedness (Myopia)?

Hi. Ever since I got into computers my eyesight has deteriorated. My eyes have gotten used to looking at the close-up screen. I'm 13 so I don't know a lot about this stuff, but since I wasn't born with this condition, is there a way to reverse it? Like, could I make my eyes get used to looking at far away things? Appreciate your help, thanks.

Answers:

I know what you mean!! Eye strain is the worst side effect of my job as well, and I've been worse than 20/400 (cannot even see the chart unless it's lit up without my glasses on) my entire life.

One thing you might want to try is a monitor filtering screen. You should be able to get this at your local computer store, or office supply store...it's the cheapest trial.

I'd probably go get an eye exam, just to make sure that it is only eye strain from looking at the computer. From there, your eye doctor might be able to prescribe some glasses you can use while on the computer to help keep your eyes from straining so much.

My job entails 100% computer work and even though I am blind as a bat to begin with, I do notice eye strain and headaches at the end of the day, which makes it harder to focus on things that are farther away within the first hour or so of ending my work day.

Because of your age, and the fact that you haven't said whether you have been to an eye doctor, I honestly would not consider refractive eye surgery. If your eye doctor does diagnose you with myopia, then LASIK or PRK might be an option for you in the future, but the good eye surgeons won't consider the surgery until you are at least 18 and fit other criteria needed.
