I am shortsighted...?!

Question:

I am shortsighted...?

I just went to the opticians today and she said I should wear glasses all the time after 2 weeks but I don't want to. I can see fine without them but I can't see words on the whiteboard at school when sitting far away. My left eye is: -3.50 and right is -3.25, should I wear them all the time cos I don't want my eyes to go all funny looking like people that wear glasses all the time, no offence.

Answers:

That is a pretty significant prescription to not be wearing glasses... You may think you can see well without glasses but hunny until your vision is corrected you will not know what its like to see well. You must not be able to read the whiteboards, signs, anything far away... isn't that a pain? Squinting is not very attractive! Also you are probably thinking that your eyes will look "funny" behind the lenses... but with your prescription your eyes will not look noticeably different. It is when you get into higher prescriptions that it starts to either magnify or minify your eyes.... and even then they are things we can do to minimize those effects.
I would highly recommend getting a nice pair of glasses with polycarbonate lenses and a Anti reflection coating.... wear them around for one day and you will love how well you can see with them. There are soo many trendy designer frames now.... as long as you pick one that is suitable then you will look great. Glasses can be a fashion accessory.
Honestly hun get glasses... you do not know what your are missing visually you will be soo surprised when you put on your glasses. And if you get over your fear of contacts you should try them out if you do not like the look of glasses.
Good luck :)
