Question:
If a 79 year old female has a "vitrectomy" because catract fell into eye is that normal?
1st doctor did cataract surgery part of catract fell into the eye(said the middle part was super hard). Then she had to have second surgery"vitrectomy" to remove it.But in 2nd operation her new lens had to be removed.Doctor has this and that excuse. Is that grounds for medical law suit?
Answers:
No it isn't grounds for a lawsuit, at least not if it was on her consent or described to her as a possible complication.
If she was told additional surgeries in part of the complications, that would cover it.
And it is also not an excuse, I have seen it happen many times before, the lens falls into the capsule and usually a specialist (Retinal) does a complete vitrectomy and completes the cataract surgery at another time.
There are many times though that the ophthalmologist doing the surgery does a vitrectomy at the time of surgery.
