Eyeglasses (Temple end / tip) Replacement and Repair?!

Question:

Eyeglasses (Temple end / tip) Replacement and Repair?

The temple end / tip of my eyeglasses broke. I called several optometry offices and they want at least $60 to find the part and repair it. I was wondering if there is a place (website) where I can find temple tip/end parts for replacements? I found one website, http://qtena.com/ , but I don't know what the measurements mean to purchase it. For example, one says, "1.5MM X 65MM 12 PAIR". What does the 1.5MM measure? I figured the 65MM to be the length of the temple end. Please help! Thanks in advance.

Answers:

Now is the temple (the part that comes from the front of your frame down over your ear) broken off? Or is it the plastic part that covers your ears that is broken? There is no way any place should charge $60 for a generic plastic temple cover. If they cannot find an identical cover they will change both but it still would not cost $60. Those things are dirt cheap and they aren't very hard to replace... unless you have an unusual frame construction that requires a special one to be ordered or if the plastic cover is part of the frame (then a new temple will have to be ordered).
If the temple is broken at the hinge (where it attaches to the front) it may be able to be soldered back on depending on how it is broken. It needs special optical solder so do not attempt to do it yourself. If it cannot be soldered then a new temple will have to be ordered and they usually cost $60+.
In saying that I'm not 100% sure what the situation of your frame is....
My best advice to you is go to an INDEPENDENTLY owned optical that has opticians experienced in frame repair they will be able to help you the best. If you only call them they may not understand what you are speaking of and not give you an accurate price estimate.
Also to answer your question about the 1.5mm that just means the size of the hole inside the plastic cover that goes over your temple tip. When you take off the plastic temple cover it has a metal wire underneath and that is what needs to fit inside of your new cover.
Honestly hun it is best to go to a professional because it may not turn out as desired if you do it yourself.
Do not go to one of those big chain stores for repairs, you will have more luck with an independent optical!
Hope that helps hun :)
