Anyone have luck getting bifocal contacts to work?!

Question:

Anyone have luck getting bifocal contacts to work?

Have tried several different (relatively mild) prescriptions without finding adequate results-still trying. On the job glasses become too much hassle....have tried them-bifocals/trifocals but couldnt adjust at all.Tried monofocal contacts w/o success.
Tried just using "readers"(drug store reading glasses that sit on lower part of nose) but found I can't keep taking them off and on at my busy job and they fog up becoming useless when wearing certain equipment.

thanks, AT- I understand now I did get a small understanding before that it would be a compromise and I need to find out how much I can see up close vs far, which I think I can fathom more now that you reiterated that clearly(emphasis on the CLEARLYhaha) I tried to give up more in the distance dept but found I was having too much blurrriness in the distance to the point of causing safety issues. So I am trying just to get that compromise "tweaked" Could I wear a pair of glasses to help with distance WHILE wearing the contacts for driving, then take them off and just use the contacts for tthe up close and mid distances more required at work?

I feel a lot better about it now as I think I just didnt get that point well enough from my optometrist,(he may have tried but but didnt sink in) so thanks again. its still better than not being able to see much up close at all w/o the readers when Im in a crisis at work requiring quick action and reading at the same time.
You are the best answer of course but it wont let me choose yet.

It sounds like you have tried all the options for bifocal wearers out there. You may just be one of those people who can't adapt to bifocal contacts. One of the biggest problems I have seen with people and bifocal contacts is that people expect to have clear vision up close and at a distance. In reality this is probably not going to happen. Most people who wear bifocal contacts have to decide: Do I want my up close vision to be a little blurry so that my distance vision is clear? or Do I want my up close vision clear with some blurriness in my distance vision? If your one of those who wants to see clear up close and at a distance, you probably won't ever be satisfied with bifocal contacts. Also you will usually not have as clear vision with your contacts as you do your bifocal ( or progressive) glasses and this factors in to your satisfaction also. Answer these questions and talk with your eye care professional to see what your next step should be.
