Ophthamology Appointment tomorow, what questions should I ask?!

Question:

Ophthamology Appointment tomorow, what questions should I ask?

My 6 month old son is going to an ophthmalogist tomorrow. He has a discoloration in his iris but it's not covering the pupil, his pediatrician didn't think it was anything to worry about, but still referred my son to the ophthamolgist. He doesn't appear to have any vision problems or development problems. What questions should I ask? Here is a link to a photo of my son's eye. http://img101.mytextgraphics.com/photola...

Answers:

On quick inspection, it looks like what is known as an iris nevus or birthmark. Most of the time they are harmless and just require observation. As with any pigmented lesion or mole on the body, on rare occasion it can convert to malignancy. See this website for information: http://www.stlukeseye.com/conditions/nev...
