Why do children have such large eyes?
Do eyes grow, maturing into adulthood like everything else? I thought I saw a documentary . . . . ?

Let's clear this up, and dispel some of the statements made in the previous answers. The eye DOES grow after birth. This includes the structures within the eyes. The reason that infants' eyes look so big to many people has to do with relative size. Very small head; almost normal eyes. As the baby grows,, the percentage increase in head size will be much greater than the percentage increase in eye size. The head grows a lot, the eyes grow a little! Make no mistake though, the adult eye IS bigger than the infant's.
