Contact lense solutions...?!

Question:

Contact lense solutions...?

Glasses bother me and contacts feel natural.
ONLY PROBLEM:
Last year Baush&Lomb had problems with their solution. That was fine b/c I use the AMO Complete Moisture Plus, but recently I heard news that they had problems, as well. I don't want an infection-I only have two eyes! Sometimes these news come out and are like on a tiny link on news webpages or are in small print running across the screen on news. If I miss this important news, how would I know to switch contact solution? This is really bothering me. Which, in your opinion, has thus far been the safest solution to use? How do you keep up with this info?
THANKS!!!

Answers:

B&L recalled the products and pulled every last bottle of it from the shelves. It was their "Mosture Loc" solution. Their other solution, "Multi Plus" is fine.

In the office where I work, Alcon products are very popular and 98% of our patients don't have a problem with it.

Clear Care is also very good. Its a hydrogen peroxide based system that's more involved, but well worth it. CIBAVISION used to make a line called AOSept which was GREAT! But I don't think they are making it right now...

The one person above me said that they keep switching. That is not the answer. Using a bunch of different solutions can trigger reactions because of all the different chemicals and preservatives in each brand. If you have a reaction of some type and you were using several brands, it makes it hard to pinpoint exactly which solution it was that gave you the reaction.

Another person said about using saline...Saline does NOT disinfect your lenses. You can use it to rinse them off, but it will not kill bacteria and germs on the lenses.

I agree that doing periodic searches on Contact Lens Solution Recalls is a good idea if you are that concerned. Nothing wrong with being an informed consumer. You are right about only having 2 eyes. Right now the technology doesn't exist to take a set of eyes out of a cadaver and put them in someone else and have them be able to see and function like your own eye. Product recalls like those are usually pretty heavily broadcast because of the millions of contact lens wearers. I heard about B&L's recall on the radio, on the TV, on Yahoo, at from the Rep's at work...but it doesn't hurt to keep up with it and check on it every few months or so.

Wish there more patients like you who were as concerned over the health of their eyes as you are!!! Here's a star for being such a good patient!
