Is there a remedy for eye styes?

My son has a stye on his eye. I have taken him to the local clinic (no health insurance) and they have told me to let it run it's course. However, we are on day 7 and it has become hideous and looks very uncomfortable. My son is 2 yrs. old and although it does not seem to bother him much, I am wondering of anyone knows of a home remedy or even an over-the-counter that may clear it up.

The warm compresses as mentioned above are good advice. Sometimes, even this doesn't take care of the problem and a person needs further treatment, i.e., oral antibiotics, an injection of steroid, or physical excision. Definitely try the warm compresses. If it's not better by the two-week mark, see your doctor again. The latter two treatments are not very comfortable so you want to do those compresses religiously.
