I have strabismus that is corrected when i wear contacts,can i get lasik?!

I have strabismus that is corrected when i wear contacts,can i get lasik?

i also have a strooong prescription. i suffered of this all my life, when i take my glasses or contacts off one of my eyes would look inward. i was wondering if anybody here share the same experience, i am 28 do you think lasik would correct my strabismus if it corrects my vision? thank you

My guess is you are quite far-sighted (hyperopic) and that when the eyes try to focus without your lenses on an eye tends to turn in (accommodative esophoria). It's how the brain is wired...when you focus your eyes, the eyes converge (move in) and your pupils get smaller. With the lenses in place, the eyes no longer have to focus in an attempt to see clearly, so the eyes don't converge and everything is roses. LASIK works best on lower hyperopes, but can be performed on moderate or high hyperopes depending on individual factors such as corneal thickness, night-time pupil size, and associated astigmatism. The best bet is to check with an eye care professional and get an initial evaluation for the LASIK procedure. The surgeon may recommend a procedure similiar to LASIK called PRK (photorefractive keratecomy).

There is also a field called vision therapy where doctors can develop a program to strengthen you visual system to help the individual parts of the vision system work better together in order to reduce or eliminate your strabismus. It helps to know all you options.
