Has anyone been told by an eye doctor if they continue to smoke cigarettes they !

Question:

Has anyone been told by an eye doctor if they continue to smoke cigarettes they may go blind?

If so, what were they diagnosed with? I was told sometime in my 20's that they viens or muscles in the back of my eyes are weak. I was told that I will go blind by the age of 35 if I didn't quit smoking, ( I have 1 year before I'm 35) I always have red viens in my eyes and if and when I cry my eyes look so terrible. My sight is going cause I just know. Every year my sight is worse and worse. If anyone could tell me if they know what this condition is called I'd apprieiate it.

Answers:

Smoking hardens the vessels and makes them narrower. This reduces the nutrients your eye receives and can be detrimental to your visions. If you happen to have diabetes, hypertension or macular degeneration (all conditions which cause vision problems in and of themselves) you are at greater risk because these conditions are exacerbated by smoking. We all know the risks of smoking, not just for eye health, but for overall health. Please try to quit. I wish you the best of luck.
