Contacts are not bad for you if you comply with the proper wearing schedule and maintain the care needed. They are only bad for you if you are irresponsible with them.
If you either wear your contacts too long in a day or do not throw them out when recommended you could be depriving your cornea of oxygen. This can cause many problems and leave your eyes prone to infection and damage that could be permanent. Also if you are not careful... like not washing your hands before inserting them, swimming with them, not cleaning and storing them properly... then they can be bad for you. As long as you are responsible and abide by the the proper contact lens wear and care and maintain routine check ups with your eye care professional then they are not bad for you at all :)
